Swing Trading on a Fixed Exposure Base
Welcome to the first post of my “Cool Use-Cases” series — where I explore practical scenarios that show how InvMon can help you gain clearer insights into your portfolio, make data-driven decisions, and manage risk more effectively.
The Concept
Long-term investors often set a target exposure for each stock — for example, allocating 10% of a portfolio to a particular company — and then maintain that allocation over time.
But markets move, and sometimes you want to respond to short-term price swings without changing your long-term allocation plan. That’s what I call opportunistic rebalancing on top of a fixed target exposure — temporarily adjusting your position to take advantage of short-term movements while keeping your base strategy intact.
How InvMon Supports It
InvMon is designed to make this process straightforward. You can:
- Set separate upward and downward thresholds for any position — at the position level, across a portfolio, or as a default for your broker account.
- When a threshold is reached, InvMon automatically calculates and displays a rebalancing delta order — a trade sized precisely to restore your position to its target percentage.
- Once executed, the trade is logged in InvMon’s transaction history and visually marked on the price chart — green markers for buys, orange markers for sells.
This gives you a clear, data-backed view of when and how your exposure changes, making it easy to spot performance patterns over time. Here’s what this might look like:

Why It Works
By layering opportunistic trades on top of your base exposure, you can:
- Capture partial gains when prices rise.
- Rebuild exposure when prices dip.
- Maintain a consistent long-term strategy while reacting intelligently to market dynamics.
It’s a disciplined approach that combines structure with flexibility — one of the key ideas behind InvMon’s portfolio management philosophy.
